Husband. Father. Brother. Son. Friend. Dr. Umoh was the shining example of each of these titles. The way he lived his life inspired everyone he came into contact with. He led by example with his incomparable work ethic that allowed him to earn a terminal degree. He was a leader in his community and in his home, loved and respected by his children, nieces, and nephews.
To the Akwaowo children, he was a phenomenal uncle. He gave the best advice, always encouraged us to strive for greatness and excellence, and pushed us to exceed our potential. His influence and impact on our lives will forever be felt. He was the heartbeat of every event; a commanding presence on the dance floor. His passionately strong friendship and brotherhood with our father was one of the most heartwarming things to witness. They had a bond unlike any other, and it was evident to everyone. This brotherhood truly mirrored a shining example of what it looks like for iron to sharpen iron; a model of the type of friendships God ordained for us to have here on earth. Today and every day, we are at peace knowing that we are better people because of the life lived by Dr. Emmanuel Umoh.
He will be missed, but as it is written in 1 Thessalonians 4:13, “we do not mourn as those who have no hope" for we know that he is eternally resting in the hands of Our Father. We endeavor to keep his legacy of joy alive until we are reunited one day soon in Heaven.
