In Share Your Memory
The Diaspora of Nto Afaha, USA, seizes this moment to thank all best wishers for the support and love shown during this difficult time. Afaha is a clan nested in Essien Udim local government area of Akwa-Ibom state in Nigeria.
The demise of our leader is still a rude shock, and beyond comprehension. After much soul-searching to fully understand the invisible-inevitable phenomenon of death, we’ve come to its acceptance that “God’s wish and call does not ring a bell.” And in preparation to a final farewell bid to this great leader, we pray for the family and Nto Afaha Community for the strength to endure the loss.
Dr. Umoh was not just a leader: He was a beacon of hope, a source of inspiration, and a guiding light for all of us and many others. His unwavering dedication to our community and tireless efforts to improve what needed improvement, including the lives of others, truly exemplified him - an extraordinary leader.
He was a man of many facets and leadership: Selfless, Altruistic, and Community Builder. Despite the various accomplishments, he remained very focused towards personal and professional growth and, in fact, continued the pursuit of his academic dreams and earned a doctoral degree from USC.
For those who may not have known, Dr. Umoh was from Nsasak village of Afaha Clan in Essien-Udim Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State. A contemplative person by nature, he took family, business, and community to the heart of his existence. He contributed much towards development of Nsasak and Afaha youths in education, healthcare and sports. The void he left will take some time to fill.
In pursuit of excellence, collaboration was one of his traits in organizational building and humanity relationships. He ascended the title of AKISAN National President with the focus of transforming and repositioning the organization for community added-value. Even with the tribal cankerworms that seemed to have consumed and plagued our ethnic differences, Dr. Umoh never saw them as reasons not to engage with all.
He was a successful entrepreneur and Chairman Executive Officer of XEQ Consulting Solutions, LLC. He helped in establishing many businesses, firms and organizations in USA - Diaspora communities and Akwa Ibom State. The selfless sacrifices by him have helped bolster economic empowerment and employment in various communities.
His selfless endeavors led to the existence of the following establishments: Ubium Development Association in USA, Akwa Global Investment (AGI) and the 2016 foundation stone of the Medical City Project in Afaha Obong in Abak Local Government Area.
These involvements and expertise of him in a wide range of pursuits, would make those that did not know him to wonder his energy level…thus coined him ‘a renaissance man’. And prior to his unexpected exit, he initiated the establishment of Afaha Development Congress (ADC) to help unify USA-Diaspora of Afaha towards a unified purpose to developing and empowering the Afaha community in Akwa Ibom State. His vision and materialistic values have been felt in Afaha with annual palliatives and crisis interventions.
As complex as humanity is, it is always very hard to say good-bye to a loved one, and this is where we’ve found ourselves at this very moment.
Dr. Umoh, we honor and adore you for all what you did for everyone that was in your life. Surely, you will be greatly missed. We look forward to celebrating your life for the contributions to all of us and mankind as whole.
As we bid him a final good-bye, it is important to remember that our gratitude must extend beyond words. We must ensure that his visions and dedication live on through our actions and continued commitment to the causes he so much cherished and stood for. We must strive to carry forward his dreams of building our community.
We bid you good-bye and Rest in Peace. Leo A Simon
